Water is one of the few materials on earth that can exist simultaneously in more than one state of matter (solid, liquid, and gas) at certain temperatures.

  • Earth: solid-state water (ice or snow). Its crystalline structure represents stasis.
  • Water: liquid water. Its fluid structure represents adaptation.
  • Air: gaseous water (steam or fog). Its nebulous structure represents communication.
  • Fire: energy (lightning, heat, fire). It causes changes in state, thus representing change.
